Today’s business environment compels organisations to consider the impact of their corporate activities and policies on society and the environment. Many consumers are seeking products that are verified to be environmentally-friendly, and those organizations able to verify the source of their wood products will possess a competitive edge in the marketplace.
Solution
What is Chain of Custody Certification?
Chain of Custody (CoC) is the process by which certified forest products are verified to come from properly managed, sustainable sources. All organizations wishing to become CoC certified must meet the minimum requirements in product traceability, product storage and handling, invoicing, and record keeping, and have an on-site audit by an accredited third-party verifier.
There are two leading standards which promote sustainable forestry management: Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Programs (PEFC). Obtaining Chain of Custody certification to one of these standards assures the consumer that labelled products have been produced with wood or fiber sourced from a properly managed forest.
What are the key benefits of implementing Chain of Custody Certification?
- Meet customer demands for proof of environmentally-friendly products and harvesting procedures.
- Increase market potential by using sustainable products.
- Help protect and renew global forests by participating in sustainable forestry practices.
- Help conserve the Earth’s resources to ensure that future generations will enjoy the benefits of the forests.
Key Steps In Our Certification Process Are:
- Definition of certification scope;
- Pre-audit (optional): audit of your current position against the standard’s requirements;
- Internal audit;
- Certification audit (certificate issued);
- Surveillance audits to verify the continued compliance to the standard;
- Re-certification after the completion of the 5-year certificate cycle.
