Amdel's Metallurgical team has access to the extensive testing and analysis equipment within the Material Laboratories, the Amdel group of laboratories, as well as having ties with commercial, government and academic research facilities throughout Australia.

This broad experience and equipment is available to our clients with conventional materials and metallurgical consultancy and root cause analysis projects. Our experience is often contracted for by litigation and loss adjusters, using our independence and experience as part of expert witness services. Services include:

1. Metallography

Effective case depth determination; depth of decarburisation; phase identification; non metallic inclusion content; grain size; intergranular oxidation; segregration

2. Assessment of Quality

Confirmation of material type and grade, detection and evaluation of defects, identification of applicable standards, compliance with standards.

3. Failure Identification

Failure identification, analysis, causes and origin design, overload, misuse or abuse. Areas such as structural failures, cranes and gantries, ladders and scaffold, machine frame failures, wire ropes, hoists and slings, bolting failure/problems, and pressure vessels.

4. Component Failures

Areas such as transport, motor vehicles, railway components, materials handling systems, heat engines - turbine, diesel, petrol, electric motors and compressors, power transmission systems - gears, shafts.

5. Chemical analysis of metallic and non metallic materials

Identification of unknown materials, comparative material evaluation;

6. Material and Process Design

Material and process design and selection evaluation of mechanical (tension, compression, stiffness, toughness, fatigue, hardness) properties.
